Why does hiring a barn cost this much?

Sometimes someone looks at the price and asks: “how can you charge that much for a barn?”. A fair question, so here's a fair answer. Below is everything that makes up the amount – no marketing, just how it looks from the inside.

  1. Fasada stodoły z otwartą bramą, parasol, leżak, wiata
    I.

Restoration: 1.5 million PLN and four years of work

Adapting a century-old barn to the requirements for hosting events – structure, installations, kitchen, bathrooms, accommodation, grounds – took 1.5 million złoty and four years of hard work, not counting the purchase of the farm. It isn't a barn with some chairs like your uncle's, but a venue adapted to and meeting the standards for a hundred and twenty guests.

  2. Łąka z girlandą świateł, hamaki, siano, wzgórza, dzień
    II.

A handful of weekends of work, twelve months of upkeep

We host 17 weddings a year, but the estate has to be maintained all year: heated, aired, a few hectares of meadow mown, the roof, walls, installations and animals looked after. Venues that hold weddings every Friday, Saturday and Sunday spread these costs over three times as many events. We spread them over a handful, because we chose this model deliberately: a slow wedding here is meant to be a real experience – one couple, the whole weekend, our full attention – not a fashionable slogan on a website.

  3. Goście od tyłu przy przeszklonych drzwiach patrzą na ceremonię na łące, w tle wzgórza
    III.

Your hosts working the whole weekend

The price includes our presence from Friday morning to Sunday evening – a dozen or more hours a day. Handover, helping the crews, keeping the schedule, freshening the hall at seven in the morning, swapping a gas cylinder in the middle of the night. Plus preparing the hall before you and cleaning up after you.

  4. Talerz Lubiana, sztućce, kwiat, zielona serwetka, winietka na drewnie (fotograf)
    IV.

A professional kitchen to maintain and insure

Cold room, high-end convection oven, commercial dishwasher, bain-maries, urns, coffee machine – costly equipment that needs regular servicing, mandatory inspections and parts. Unlike a restaurant, where such equipment earns its keep every day, ours works 17 weekends a year – and servicing and inspections cost just the same. The whole estate is insured. That's why your caterer doesn't pay for a rental and doesn't charge you for “difficult field conditions”.

  5. Nakrycie zbliżenie: talerze, kieliszki, brama w tle
    V.

Equipment that has to be looked after

The solid-wood tables are refinished every season, damaged chairs replaced, decorations topped up. Guest blankets go to the laundry after every wedding, deckchairs and umbrellas are cleaned and repaired. Every season dozens of pieces of Lubiana porcelain and glass get broken – we don't take a damage deposit or charge anyone for it, we simply buy more. You only pay for damage if something is broken on purpose or more than 5% of the tableware issued gets broken. The same goes for the kitchen and estate items that “go missing” during weddings.

  6. Wnętrze namiotu glampingowego: 4 łóżka na paletach, pościel, ręczniki
    VI.

    Cleaning supplies, toilets, bathrooms, kitchen

Cleaning and stocking the toilets and bathrooms all weekend – paper, towels, soap – is included and on us. Likewise the kitchen: cleaning products, bin bags, gloves, dishwasher chemicals. Dozens of small things nobody notices until they run out.

  7. Stodoła o zmierzchu, ciepłe światło z bramy, granatowe chmury
    VII.

Utilities and what's left after the wedding

Electricity for the sound system, the cold room, a hundred phone chargers and hundreds of lights that set the mood in the hall and lit up the garden. Gas for the kitchen and the patio heaters. Water for a hundred and twenty people over three days. Waste collection after the wedding and the Sunday party. All included – nobody gets a utility bill from us after the wedding.

  8. Pokój gościnny: suknia na zielonej szafie, okno łukowe, bukiet (fotograf)
    VIII.

Growing the place: something new every season

The renovation hasn't paid for itself yet, and we're already investing again. Part of every price goes back into Stara Podkowa: new amenities, better equipment and ideas that couples suggest to us. That's how the Wedding Assistant came about, where you plan the whole weekend with us. Right now we're renovating the couple's suite, which will be waiting, refreshed, from the 2027 season, and 2028 brings the hot tub under the stars. Every year we want to be a little better than the year before, so that your time here is even more enjoyable.

The price isn't a fee for four walls for one evening. It's a whole weekend at a place that spends the rest of the year waiting just for you, people who for three days work only for you, and equipment we look after so you never have to think about it. That's why we publish the price openly – and why there are no surprises in it.
