Questions & answers

If something's missing here, just ask.

We're at your disposal and happy to explain everything over coffee or online.

Who are you and how do we get in touch?

Hi, we're Tomek and Iza – the hosts of Stara Podkowa. We live on site, so we answer your emails and calls, show you around the barn, sit down with you for the contract and are with you the whole weekend. No middlemen, no call centre, no “coordinator on shift” – always by name. In 2026 our average reply time to couples was 52 minutes, and after signing we run all arrangements in the Wedding Assistant, so nothing gets lost in email, and the Assistant reminds you in good time what we need from you and by when. We speak English.

Can we come and see the barn?

Absolutely – we encourage it. We meet on site any day of the week by appointment – we're usually here, but please confirm a few days in advance. During the wedding season, out of respect for our couples, we show the venue on weekdays only, not at weekends. On site we show you the barn, the meadow, the kitchen, the rooms and the glamping, sit down over coffee and answer all your questions. If you live far away, we’ll do an online call with a presentation. After the call or visit we hold your date free of charge for 7 days so you can decide calmly.

When can we view the venue?

Best in person – we recommend meeting us on site, because the barn makes an even bigger impression in real life than in photos, and we'll gladly host you and show you around the whole estate. When do we get access before and after the wedding?

You have us for the whole weekend and nobody else is here. On Friday morning we hand you the keys and show you everything: the barn, the kitchen, the rooms, where the power is on the meadow and how the gate opens. You decorate in daylight, the caterer moves into the kitchen, and in the evening there's a bonfire for guests who arrived early. Saturday has no time limit, on Sunday the party is included until 8 pm, you have until the end of Monday for the clean-up and until 8 pm on Tuesday to collect leftover food. No couple before you rushing out, no couple after you.

What do we need to tell you before the wedding, and when?

You don’t need to keep track – the Wedding Assistant reminds you. In good time you get a notification about what we need and by when: for example guest and bed numbers (you can change the set-up until 7 days before the wedding), the seating plan, the ceremony time and contacts for your caterer or DJ. Everything lands in one place, in the right thread, so nothing gets lost in emails and texts, and we never call you in your wedding week to ask what time the cake arrives. The last days before the wedding belong to you, not to logistics.

How do we get there?

Stara Podkowa is at Wierzchosławice 49 near Bolków, Lower Silesia. About an hour from Wrocław on the S3 expressway with the exit right by us; 40 minutes from Wałbrzych, 35 from Jelenia Góra. Wrocław airport is about 70 minutes away. Monitored, fenced parking for dozens of cars on site plus extra space by the property. For guests without a car we have an 8-seater bus with a driver (night shuttle in the price list), and for the weekend they can stay with us or at partner places up to 7 km away.

Do you help with an outdoor ceremony?

Of course – we do it a dozen times a year. You choose the spot: the orchard, the meadow with the hill view or the wooden gate as a backdrop. We prepare the decorative arch, set out 40 outdoor chairs, provide a Bluetooth speaker with microphones, the national emblem and a table for the registrar, and one of us makes sure it runs to the minute: guests seated, music for the entrance, witnesses knowing where to stand. If it rains, the ceremony moves under the covered passage from the courtyard to the meadow – 80–100 people fit there comfortably, and the mountain view stays.

Can we have a legal civil ceremony outdoors?

Yes. The first step is consent from the registry office in Bolków – the clerks are helpful and efficient. The key document is our statement as owners agreeing to a ceremony on the estate; the template is on the website, and we’ll prepare a copy signed by hand for you – the registry office needs an original signature. You file it with your application. For foreign nationals the registry office may require extra documents (and a sworn interpreter at the ceremony) – we'll help you find out what's needed. A humanist or symbolic ceremony needs no paperwork at all.

What support do you provide during the wedding itself?

We're on site for the whole hire, and couples often say they treat us like extra witnesses. On Friday we show the crews the back-of-house, help set up decorations and suggest what looks best where. On Saturday we keep an eye on the schedule, help in the kitchen when the caterer needs hands, support outside suppliers – the DJ, photographer, florist – and respond to everything unexpected: a gas cylinder swapped in the middle of the night, a missing extension lead, a guest feeling unwell. We advise on the day and, when needed, show guests what to do next: where to sit for the ceremony, when to move to the tables, where the bus is waiting. In the morning we freshen up the hall for the Sunday party. You have one job: to celebrate.

How many weddings do you host a year, and why so few?

In the 2028 season we'll host 17 weddings, one per weekend, from June to September. It could be three times as many if we hired the barn out separately for Friday, Saturday and Sunday – but then each couple would get a few hours to decorate and have to vanish in the morning because the next one is waiting. We'd rather give you the whole weekend and truly be there. That's the only “exclusivity” we care about.

Why does hiring a barn cost this much?

Because it isn't four walls for one evening. The price covers the whole weekend at a venue whose restoration took 1.5 million PLN and four years, your hosts working a dozen hours a day, a professional kitchen with servicing and insurance, equipment we refinish and replace every season (dozens of pieces of tableware a year – no charge), cleaning supplies, utilities and waste collection. And year-round upkeep spread over a handful of weddings, not dozens. We've written it out point by point on the “Why this price?” page.

What decorations are included?

Our decoration storeroom is at your disposal: tulle, tablecloths and runners in green and beige, candlesticks, battery lights, vases, placemats, welcome boards, photo hangers, a dozen or so umbrellas for a rainy day and many other accessories. In the 2026 season some couples decorated practically their whole wedding with our decorations alone. Friday gives you time to decorate the hall with family, gather wildflowers and create a homely feel – and we'll suggest what looks best where.

What exactly do we get for the price?

The whole barn with the meadow, hammocks, deckchairs, umbrellas, blankets, lawn games, chill-out zones and parking – exclusively yours from Friday morning to Sunday 8 pm. The hall is cleaned and laid out for your guest list with solid-wood tables and chairs. Plus a 65 m² kitchen with a cold room and dish room, Lubiana porcelain, glassware and cutlery for 120, the decoration storeroom, lighting, a large Bluetooth speaker with microphones (for background music, the ceremony, the Sunday party or the bonfire), gas patio heaters, the Sunday party, your hosts on site all weekend, cleaning and stocking the toilets, the Wedding Assistant, the couple's suite and the Friday bonfire. No corkage, no cake fee, no damage deposit, no utility charges. The full list is on the pricing page and the sample contract is there to download.

Which months do you host weddings?

Season 2028 is June to September, 17 Saturdays. That's when the barn opens onto a flowering meadow, the evenings are warm and the sunsets over Poręba make a natural backdrop. We don't host weddings in winter or the cold months – the barn is brick but not heated enough for us to honestly promise comfort in April or November. We'd rather have a handful of weekends where everything works than dozens that are “fine”.

Is the barn comfortable in a heatwave or on a cool night?

Yes. The barn is brick – metre-thick walls and a cool floor keep a pleasant temperature even in July heat, and the open gate plus large fans over the dance floor give a breeze air conditioning can't match. The ceremony and chill-out can move into the shade of the trees. For a chilly evening we provide gas patio heaters by the outdoor zones and blankets for guests, included. The rooms and glamping tents are heated.

Is the barn really a barn?

Yes – and that's its charm. We clean it regularly, but it's a century-old farm building with an open roof structure and a gate onto the meadow, so expect the odd cobweb or a trace of birds or other farm animals now and then. No marble, no gold chairs – there's brick shaped by hand in 1905 and beams hay dried under for a hundred years. Before you arrive the hall is cleaned and laid out, and we're on site the whole weekend.

Who looks after the toilets during the wedding?

We do. Cleaning and stocking the toilets all weekend – paper, towels, soap – is included and on us. You don't have to think about it or assign anyone to it. And the toilets themselves are neither “barn-style” nor portable: they're in a modern, nicely finished building right by the barn, with two men's cubicles and a urinal and three women's cubicles, running water, mirrors and hairdryers, and accessible for wheelchair users too. It's worth preparing your own emergency baskets for guests, though: the baskets are in our decoration storeroom, the contents – plasters, tissues, hairpins, painkillers – are up to you.

What about a noise curfew?

There's no curfew in the barn – you party until 7 am, when the cleaning crew arrives. For the comfort of guests and neighbours we ask the DJ or band to keep to 92 dB inside; we have a meter showing the level live, and thick walls that hold the sound in. Don't worry: it's plenty for a great party, and at that level guests at the tables can still talk. On the meadow and by the bonfire, make as much noise as you like.

Can we have a live band?

Of course. There’s a large stage in the barn with three-phase power, so a band with a full sound system fits, and a DJ has plenty of room for decks and lights. As with a DJ, we ask bands to keep to 92 dB inside – good bands know that level and can fill the dance floor with it, while guests at the tables can still talk.

Can we use cold sparks, confetti or smoke cannons?

Yes – cold pyrotechnics are allowed: sparks, smoke cannons and confetti. We don’t use classic fireworks or pyrotechnics with a flame, because with wooden beams overhead and hay on the meadow we’d rather not take risks. One request about confetti: if it’s plastic, you need to clear it from the hall and the meadow afterwards. That’s why we recommend petal confetti – it looks just as lovely in photos and the meadow takes care of it on its own.

What if it rains on the day of our outdoor wedding?

Here an outdoor wedding doesn’t depend on the forecast. The barn is spacious and open to the meadow: even in a downpour guests sit at the tables looking out at the green and the hills, and the gate stays open enough for the meadow to be part of the room – still a wedding in nature, just without the soaked shirt. The roof has been renovated and stays dry even in a storm. We move the ceremony, free of charge, under the covered passage from the courtyard to the meadow – 80–100 people fit there comfortably – you keep the mountain view. A dozen or so umbrellas wait in our decoration store so nobody gets wet on the way from the barn. The chill-out and smokers move under a roof and the party goes on. If you’d like an extra covered zone on the meadow regardless of the weather, there’s a 6×12 m tent in the price list.

Will children have a good time?

Very much so. A hectare of meadow, hammocks, horses, hens and ducks on the farm – kids usually vanish onto the meadow right after dinner. If you want to keep them busy, our partner Legacy Events brings entertainers and kids’ tents with no travel fee, and the 6×12 m chill-out tent easily becomes a kids’ corner. Families can sleep together – rooms have from two to several beds. We only invite the horses into photos when they’re in the mood, and always under our watch.

How late can we party?

Saturday has no time limit – until 7 am, when the cleaning crew arrives and we freshen up the hall for the Sunday party. On Sunday a clean hall is ready from the morning – the Sunday party until 8 pm, included. Couples who skipped the Sunday party last season regretted it, so we rolled everything into one simple price: on Sunday you have the hall and the estate without limits.

Can we bring our own drinks?

Of course – and only your own, because we don't sell alcohol and charge no corkage or commission. Bring what you like, chill it in our commercial cold room on Friday, and we store what's left until 8 pm on Tuesday. We'll suggest realistic quantities for a hundred people over two days – we've done it a dozen times. You arrange a bartender yourselves or through the caterer.

How does the clean-up work?

Hiring the barn is a bit like renting a holiday house: you receive it clean and hand it back in a similar state, ready for the next couple. Much of it takes care of itself. Our recommended caterers clear the tables and wash up after themselves (if you bring your own team, agree the same with them), and we collect any stray plates or glasses ourselves. We look after the toilets all weekend, freshen up the hall for the Sunday party between 7 and 10 am, and clean the rooms after guests as part of the accommodation price. What’s left for you by the end of Monday is the final clean-up: taking down the decorations, cleaning them and putting them back in the store, clearing the tables, taking out the rubbish and leaving the kitchen clean. Leftover food can wait in the cold room until 8 pm on Tuesday – and we’re happy to help. If you’d rather just hand over the keys at 8 pm on Sunday, there’s the Worry-Free package for 2,000 PLN – the crew cleans everything and gathers your own decorations in one place, ready to collect. It exists because couples asked for it. Book it at least 7 days before the wedding so we have time to arrange the cleaning crew. If anything needs another look, we’ll let you know – you can fix small things until the end of Tuesday. Only if the venue isn’t cleaned do we have to call a crew at short notice – the final clean-up then costs 2,500 PLN.

How do booking and the deposit work?

After a call or a visit we hold your date free of charge for 7 days – time to decide calmly, without being chased. The booking is confirmed by the signed contract, whose sample is public, and a 7,000 PLN deposit. You have 7 days from signing the contract to pay it – bank transfer, card or cash. The balance is due only after the wedding, within two days of it, once you've rested; accommodation is settled by the actual number of people. We issue VAT invoices. If needed, the contract can be transferred to another couple up to 7 days before the wedding. One piece of advice: season 2027 sold out completely in June 2026, so don't leave the decision to the last minute.

Do you take a damage deposit? What if something breaks?

We don’t take a damage deposit. We know things sometimes break at a wedding, and that’s built into the price – we simply replace porcelain and glass. You only pay for damage in two situations: if something is destroyed on purpose, or if more than 5% of the tableware issued gets broken.

What if we have to cancel?

There’s one way to get your deposit back: transferring the contract to another couple, no later than 7 days before the wedding. The new couple takes over your date and terms, and your deposit comes back to you. If your plans change, let us know as soon as possible – the more time there is before the wedding, the easier it is to find a couple to take over the date.

Can we see the contract before we visit?

Yes. We're one of the few venues that openly publish the price, the terms and a sample contract. It's on the website to download (in Polish; we're happy to walk you through it in English) – read it at your own pace before booking and come to the meeting with your questions ready. There are no surprises in it: the price on the website is the price on your invoice, and everything optional has its amount listed. The one exception is there for an economic storm: if inflation since signing exceeds 5% in total, the price may rise only by the excess over that threshold.

Which caterers do you work with?

We recommend three teams who know our kitchen inside out and love coming back: Catering Pani Ani (cooking on site with home-style warmth, 784 252 944), Kocharz from Wrocław (fine dining on the road, kocharz.pl) and Kuchnia Luz’n’Bluez from Kamienna Góra (creative themed menus, 603 087 420). We have no monopoly on food and take no commission – you choose the cuisine you like, and we'll tell you who's best at what.

What about our own caterer or cooks?

If you choose another team, we'll call them ourselves, show them the kitchen and check what they need. The back-of-house is 65 m²: a separate dish room with a commercial dishwasher, a cold room, a high-end convection oven, bain-maries, urns, a professional coffee machine, platters and storage. Lubiana porcelain, glassware and cutlery for 120 are on site, so the caterer arrives with food, not a truck of equipment, and doesn't charge for “difficult field conditions”. Kitchen use on Sunday is included. The back-of-house has its own parking where even a large van can pull up, a staff toilet and a small terrace for breaks. During the wedding we help in the kitchen when hands are needed. The full list of equipment and tableware is on the “Kitchen and back-of-house” page.

Do you recommend photographers, florists and DJs?

Yes. We’re happy to share a list of friendly suppliers who have already worked under our beams and know where the best light in the barn is, where to put the decks and how the room sounds. The choice is always yours – your own suppliers are welcome too, and in the Wedding Assistant you invite them with one link so they see the schedule and the arrangements that concern them.

How many beds are there and how does check-in work?

25 beds in guest rooms upstairs in the house and 12 in two heated glamping tents on the meadow, 80 PLN per person per night, Friday night too. Check-in on the wedding day from 11 am (other days from 2 pm), check-out by 3 pm. The couple's suite – over 50 m² in the historic hayloft with a private bathroom – is included; wood, brick and soft light make it a great backdrop for getting-ready photos. The glamping has its own toilet and shower right by the tents. We clean the rooms after guests, included in the price. Accommodation is for your guests only. You manage it yourselves in the Wedding Assistant – assign people to rooms and change the number and set-up up to 7 days before the wedding without telling us. At the entrance guests see the room plan on a display, so nobody gets lost.

How are the rooms equipped?

Each room has new, comfortable beds – every one made up, with a towel – plus a table, chairs and a mirror. The standard is “just like grandma's”: wooden floors, furniture with character, lace curtains, but everything clean and spacious. Guests share three bathrooms, each with a shower, a hairdryer and basic toiletries; two have an iron and ironing board. The couple has a separate suite with its own bathroom – over 50 m² in the historic hayloft. The house has a shared guest kitchen with an induction hob, fridge, dishwasher, toaster, microwave and coffee machine; ten people can comfortably have breakfast at once. Wi-Fi works in the rooms and in the barn. Photos of the rooms, glamping and kitchen are on the “Accommodation” page.

What if 37 beds aren't enough?

We don't add extra beds because we'd rather guests sleep comfortably. Instead we have three partner places nearby: Agroturystyka Na Skraju (12 beds, 3 km), Agroturystyka Stara Plebania (18 beds, 6 km) and Gościniec Stara Mleczarnia (45 beds, 7 km). You arrange prices directly with them. We shuttle guests at night in a comfortable 8-seater bus with a driver: 800 PLN for 11 pm–3 am with unlimited runs within 30 km, and 200 PLN for each additional hour; longer distances arranged individually.

Can guests come in a campervan or bring their own tent?

Yes, they’re welcome. We have a hectare of meadow, so guests’ campervans and tents fit easily. It’s a great option for friends who like sleeping under the stars and for anyone who wants to stay the whole weekend once the 37 beds in the rooms and glamping are taken. Tents are free, and hooking a campervan up to electricity costs 50 PLN. Let us know in advance how many campervans and tents to expect and we’ll show them the best spot.

Can guests bring their dog?

Yes, dogs are welcome – there’s plenty of room for them on the meadow. We only ask that they don’t sleep on the beds, so it’s worth bringing the dog’s own bed. Remember too that horses, hens and ducks live on the farm, so keep an eye on your four-legged friend.

Is the venue accessible for people with disabilities?

The hall and its toilets are adapted for people with disabilities, including wheelchair users – grandma or an uncle in a wheelchair can get into the hall and use the toilet easily. To be honest, though, the guest rooms are upstairs in the house, so they aren’t ideal for anyone who can’t manage stairs. Let us know which guests need support and we’ll work out together how to make their weekend as comfortable as possible.

Is there parking and Wi-Fi?

Yes. Monitored, fenced parking for dozens of cars on site plus an extra area right by the property, so nobody leaves a car on the road; guests who stay over can leave theirs until Monday. Fast, free Wi-Fi works in the barn, in the rooms and across the estate – DJ, photographer and guests have signal everywhere, and the Wedding Assistant works without a hitch.
